Preview of a Network Analysis of the Climate Debate

The UK blog Left Foot Forward has provided a glimpse at a study commissioned by Oxfam by the digital mapping agency Profero. The report is not yet available but the image above is suggestive as to what it might find. I always wondered what was at the center of the climate debate universe ;-)

LOL. Look who's sitting on the fence! :)

Why is the skeptic side on the left and the AGW crowd on the right?
Clearly a clueless vision.

It certainly looks like Lucia's BlackBoard is misplaced!

Well, four out of the five blogs I keep up with on this issue are here, and they are all connected - looks like a good piece of work.

Roger-- Do you have a link to whatever left foot forward might have read to form the basis of his blog post? It will be interesting to read the report when it comes out.

It also interesting to see that climateprogress simply does not appear on the chart.

Interesting postioning of the WSJ

Looks like Oxfam has completely succumbed to the left. Too bad. There was a time when it had a clear apolitical mission.

Where are the Jews? As a character in Umberto Eco's Foulcault's Pendulum said, the Jews are at the bottom of every good conspiracy. And these people obviously think that Climategate was one big conspiracy run by nefarious forces. I saw that the neo-cons were named as originators of this kind of media conspiracy, and God knows the neo-cons do love them some Israel, so it all fits, no?

Hmmm.... maybe McIntyre is a Templar....

Fascinating and well deserved - right at the heart of the debate. You cant get a better Honest Broker than that!

Poor IPCC, it's off in nowhere land!

Roger, when I look at this diagram under super-high magnification, it's clear you're leaning skeptic by .1 mm.--Jean

re Left Foot Forward

It's easy to spot the corporate fronts. They always split the world into two opposing 'divide and rule' camps.

The head dude Will Straw derives from the 'Center for American Progress', a corporate think tank sponsored by multi billionaire hedge fund manager, saviour of James Hansen and planet earth, George Soros.

The IPCC looks awfully lonely.

They have really mislabeled the dichotomy, unless they are referring to "supporters of alarmism" and "skeptics of alarmism." How could one consider ClimateAudit or The Blackboard "skeptical" sites? They are simply seeking truth, IMHO.

A much more appropriate division would be "climate realists" and "climate alarmists." Or "science" and "consensus." Other words come to mind, as well :)

As a flattering indulgence I suppose one could let a flawed study pass. There isn't a center in the blogosphere. :)

I don't understand the "middle ground" of the IPCC depicted, or you in a "conduit" position for the IPCC (lately, not an enviable one). Furthermore, do not see Prof. Pielke Sr.. Anthony Watts lists him in the skeptical camp, but I would not classify him as such. Any comment?

Roger this means that you are either getting paid by both sides, neither side or the Jr. was a typo. ;)

I don't see why the IPCC isn't at the top of the "Supporters Network."

this looks nutty to me.

The IPCC's only connection is through Roger? Its only connection to Real Climate is through Roger? I had no idea! That's quite a conspiracy. Where's Area 51, Elvis, & Bigfoot? I didn't see the Drudge Report either.

I continue to find it odd that so many people seem to think that an 'honest broker' is or even can be a person. Can you please set the record straight.

Apparently some people have not read my book, as I am perfectly clear on this there ;-)

What I say is that individuals are poorly suited for the honest broker role. Pluralistic committees work best.

Good point. And yet is not just "alarmism" but "policy alarmism" which is at the heart of the debate. In other words, not just that big changes in climate "may" lie ahead (in 50 to 100 years) but that we "must" take radical steps now to try to stop it.

While two sides battle it out over indeterminate politicised 'science', the real issue is the increase in energy prices as a result of carbon trading.

The real players, the energy companies and banks don't appear on the map. They control governments and sponsor the corporate media to promote carbon trading/global warming.

The map does show that the supporters of carbon trading are the media industrial complex. Shell used British 'liberal newspapers like the Guardian to sell global warming leading up to Copenhagen.

While Americans argue about think tank created issues like creationism, abortion or gay marriage, they fail to notice that both parties are owned by the same companies. They don't seem to wonder why Kenyan born, fanatical Muslim socialist, Barack Obama's biggest corporate supporter was Goldman Sachs (which is not an Islamic corporation).

looking at the diagram again, i think the thick dashed line is not meant to indicate a connection, but rather a division. So the IPCC is not connected to anyone; it's just floating out there in the "policy neutral" middle (ha!). You could read that in various ways, but in any case, the idea that it's NOT connected to Real Climate is just silly.
The more I look at this diagram, the sillier it seems.

Will Straw is the son of our ZaNuLab Justice Minister Jack Straw, and juniors blog is funded by the Unite union as a propaganda vehicle for ZaNuLab...affectionately known as Left Foot in Mouth.

Sorry, this is slightly scurrilous, but amusing. I am reinforcing the establishment/ corporate nature of this 'progressive' organisation.

Jabba the Cat

Will Straw was the little chap who got arrested for drug dealing when his father, Jack Straw was Home (Justice) Secretary. He wasn't charged. Very few people are as lucky as that.

Will Straw .. has worked for the Center for American Progress and HM Treasury.
